NICA Adventure Camp
You bring the bike – we’ll bring the adventure.
Open to NICA members from any state, this mountain bike-fueled, co-ed adventure camp will combine bike skills and wilderness exploration.
In partnership with Experience Learning, this three-day, two-night camp is for middle and high school students who are interested in learning about exploring the world around them by mountain bike. Daily ride groups will be split by experience level and each group will maintain NICA-approved and certified coach to rider ratios.
At this camp you will start learning a set of skills that will open up a world of exploration opportunities. Bike maintenance and camp craft, group awareness and personal development, map reading, fire building, and self awareness activities help develop a basic set of skills that you can call from in your fall races, school work, and adventures for the rest of your life
The camp will begin and end at the Spruce Knob Mountain Center (and conveniently coincides with Experience Learning Almost Heaven Adult Bike Camp). From there you will ride into the Monongahela National Forest where you will set up a basecamp for the next two nights. From your basecamp you will venture out on daily rides into the Seneca Creek Backcountry and to the highest summit in the state, Spruce Knob (4863 ft.). Experience Learning will provide all necessary camping gear.In the evenings, unwind from the day by spending time around your campfire growing relationships with NICA friends both new and old.
You must be registered through the NICA League to participate in this camp. More information on Experience Learning can be found here. Official NICA registration for this camp opens on April 1st but you can reserve your spot starting January 1st by following the link above. This is a specialty camp with a limited number of spaces. We encourage you to reserve your spot as soon as you are able to commit.
Scholarships may be available for this program through your local NICA team or WVICL. Contact your coaches or Cassie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
